Wireless World Research Forum ( WWRF ) 1 Mobility Management in beyond 3 G - Environments

چکیده
Beyond 3G-environments are typically defined as environments that integrate different wireless and fixed access network technologies. In this paper, we address IP based Mobility Management (MM) in beyond 3G-environments with a focus on wireless access networks, motivated by the current trend of WiFi, GPRS, and UMTS networks. The GPRS and UMTS networks provide countrywide network access, while the WiFi networks provide network access in local areas such as city centres and airports. As a result, mobile end-users can be always on-line and connected to their preferred network(s), these network preferences are typically stored in a user profile. For example, an enduser who wishes to be connected with highest bandwidth could be connected to a WiFi network when available and fall back to GPRS when moving outside the hotspot area.

Mobile/wireless Internet is becoming available with the advent of third generation (3G) mobile communication systems. Along with the variety of new perspectives, mobile Internet also raises new concerns on security issues. The radio transmission is by nature more susceptible to eavesdropping and fraud in use than wireline transmission. The user mobility and the universal network access certainl...

Topic Recently the “green communications” paradigm has raised in reference to sustainable development for the information and communication technologies (ICT). The wireless world research forum (WWRF) has fixed a 50% decrease of CO2 related to ICT as an objective up to 2020. In order to reach this purpose, the wireless network design criteria need to be reconsidered while keeping an important q...
متن کاملIssues in the Introduction of Reconfigurability in Wireless B3g Environments
The wireless world is migrating towards the era of Beyond the 3 Generation (B3G) wireless communications. A major contributor towards this convergence is reconfigurability, which provides technologies that enable terminals and network segments to dynamically adapt to the set of RATs, which are most appropriate for the conditions encountered in specific service area regions and times of the day....
